A RARE .32 (RIMFIRE) TIP-UP SINGLE-ACTION SIX-SHOT POCKET REVOLVER BY L. W. POND, serial no. 993,
circa 1865, with 4in. octagonal barrel signed on the top-flat 'L.W. POND, WORCESTER MASS. PAT'D JULY 10 1860', the left hand side additionally marked 'MANUF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT'D APRIL 3 1855', tip-up two piece iron frame hinged at rear of top-strap, push button release to left hand lower frame, plain six-shot cylinder, colour hardened hammer and smooth flared walnut grips

Provenance: This interesting revolver is a direct infringement of the Rollin White patent for a through bored cylinder, and the subject of a court case. Pond lost the law suit brought by Smith & Wesson which caused cessation of production. The arms remaining in the factory (4,486 of them) were additionally marked on the barrel 'MANUF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT'D APRIL 1855', with royalties and compensation payable to Smith & Wesson
